I don’t think there’s any harm in saying what you can afford and then go from there with an artist! It’s not insulting at all if it’s lower than what the artists is used to especially if you’re an independent creator yourself!

It’s a shame because I know of a few very good artists who are technically incredible but they’re volatile and seem to fall out with people at the drop of a hat. I can’t recommend them

Oh yeah, I need to make sure the artist I recommended can play well with others and do a good job! Talent doesn’t always cut it, professionalism and being easy to work with plays a big part too, if not more so sometimes.

Even if your budget is low, just be upfront about it. If it’s for charity or I have free range or it’s not that complex and I have the time, I can work with that! If it’s last minute and I can tell your communication is good I can do last minute work too

On the flip side of this, if you’re a client looking to hire an artist please have your budget ready to go! A massive red flag is someone contacting me and not giving me their budget or even weirder, I get ‘it depends on your experience’ which is not an answer. You contacted ME.

I think a lot of us do try and pass on other artists work if we can! We all had to start somewhere!

I don’t get paid for this, I do it for free because I get to draw whatever I want, I enjoy doing it, and it’s really easy to get to from my house. I would consider doing a live drawing event for free outside of Cheltenham if it were for charity

I wondered how that show held up! I started to bail when there was no peril to any of the characters dying because they always seemed to come back one way or another. The monster of the week formula was when it was at its best
