@wolfsbs.bsky.social
I’ll be less obnoxious on this one, I promise.
The unspoken implication otherwise is that the imperial siege of the rest of the world is being done on our behalf. Noooope.

This didn’t age well.
November 16, 2025 at 8:05 AM
I phrased this incorrectly—I meant that you’re still insisting that to say African Americans are Americans is to necessarily imply an equivalence relation instead of describe a subset which cannot be conflated with the set it lies within.
November 16, 2025 at 7:58 AM
If you want to go to bat for cornball white American cultural artifacts like Al Jolson or Eminem or whoever, be my guest. It doesn’t change the history of this country’s culture.
November 16, 2025 at 7:54 AM
That the material wealth of America as a colony was either stolen or produced entirely by slaves and the people of the indigenous nations of this country (admittedly to a lesser degree in exterminationist Anglo America) is true in terms of cultural output as well, and is palpable.
November 16, 2025 at 7:51 AM
Settler populations literally are not indigenous by definition, nor can they reasonably claim indigeniety like the people descended from those brought here as chattel against their will. And you are for a third time assuming that I am saying that African American = American (= African American).

Portland?
November 14, 2025 at 10:09 AM
Irish culture isn't British, and you're not really arguing otherwise. Ergo...
November 14, 2025 at 9:51 AM
Honestly, it seems like it's moreso you who is having difficulty grasping that one can be both African American and American, not I.
November 14, 2025 at 9:50 AM
I literally just told you that I never said African Americans weren't Americans. I'm not honestly sure what else I can say to assist you to understand me as saying otherwise.
November 14, 2025 at 9:47 AM
I also dispute that the influence is bidirectional, but this is something you yourself acknowledged.
November 13, 2025 at 7:13 PM
There’s a good reason why such a thing as Black nationalism has also been a large part of this nation’s history…
November 13, 2025 at 7:05 PM
None of that can be inferred when you label the blues or hip-hop as simply “American.” It’d be somewhat like calling Irish culture “British” before there was an Irish free state.
November 13, 2025 at 7:04 PM
I never stated that African Americans weren’t American, to be clear… I’m saying that it’s imperative to recognize the multiculturalism of the US and not generalize in such a way that reifies white expropriation of African Americans culture.
November 13, 2025 at 6:57 PM
We just had a whole conversation that is testament to the fact that it is not. This negationism is what is right wing.
November 13, 2025 at 6:51 PM
Is Lebanon in Africa? I’m not 100% sure what you are saying, but I do agree that there is a qualitative difference between Orientalist expropriation and that from an entire people that white Americans once literally claimed ownership of in themselves as property.
November 13, 2025 at 6:49 PM
Nah—claiming it’s a separate issue and staking claim on it without further qualification is more than reductionist, it’s reproducing that same expropriation. White Americans (or really any other) have no right to associate with African American musical tradition like it were their own.
November 13, 2025 at 6:46 PM
And yeah, honestly, as far as _music_ goes, which style was originated solely by white Americans on their own?
November 13, 2025 at 6:41 PM
It is when the material proceeds from African American creative labor are expropriated by white imitators while African American musicians were entirely segregated from the white owned music industry (viz. the “Chitlin” circuit). This is not particularly controversial history at this point.
November 13, 2025 at 6:38 PM
Every genre of American music has been a gentrification of a preceding genre of African American music, There's no way one can reasonably say that it "belongs" to the United States when said musicians were largely plagiarized or robbed themselves by those plugged into the music industry.
November 13, 2025 at 3:53 PM
That it's referential to the culture of the European colonial state (white culture) is implicit. The culture of the United States is not a melting pot; commercially, at least, it historically has been a derivative parasitism of the cultures of the people(s) it claims dominion over.
November 13, 2025 at 3:50 PM
Nope! Lmao!
