I really enjoy them. I liked seeing a different aspect of Starfleet. The corp of engineers is the heart of Starfleet.

I would love these novellas. Short, concise and to the point. They had adventure for sure. The most important element was they are Trek.

I think it was a good ending. Now another story may blossom from it if the AI was found by a passing ship. You could have fun with all the possibilities.

Back then computers were on the ground floor. Now with AI, we have to be careful. The early Trek stories were a warning. Will we heed it? Computers and AI are everywhere.

Viruses and the system might try to take over the other systems that are in use with controlling the ship. Which just happened in this case. They should have tried it out on a smaller system before buying.

They are hungry for the business of the citizens of the galaxy. It sure ensures that the visiting peoples have to purchase an item. Unethical to its core.
