So here is a little teaser for my new album. I don’t want you to get your hopes up, since I’m not doing this full-time, it will take a while until everything is finished. But the majority of the album I’m done writing, and I’m hoping to start recording in the fall.

The last of Hidden Willow. For me, a place to come back to and find peace for a little time. Weeping willows, some kind of protective roof for me. That’s what I tried to recreate with the animation.

Let’s get to my favourite song from my album, Colourful Girl. Probably the one with the most evolved songwriting skills. The story is about a broken girl suffering from the form our society tries to push her into. A person we would rather look away from or label as crazy than interact with.

So here’s another attempt at a feature in Blender I didn’t try before. But it’s also another one where it didn’t work out quite the way I hoped. For Productively Broken I was thinking of something collapsing under a never-ending load of pressure.

Now it gets a little more experimental. I have to admit the quality suffered a little bit, but I pushed my knowledge and learned something new. For Calming Thunder, I actually had a few ideas for the animation, but most were too complex for my abilities.

For Sweet Nature, I reused the skull from Morbid Beauty, polished it a little bit, and added a few features. I also tried a new feature in Blender, the cloth simulation. The image I tried to create was the death of the Earth caused by humans. All from the perspective of the Earth.

So with this one for Little Flower, I didn’t push forward with any skill particularly. I rather tried to experiment with the ones I learned until then. The result might not hold up to the standards I have now, but it still shows what I had in mind.

With Morbid Beauty, we get to the title track of the album and also the longest. This was my first step towards progressive rock, not just because of the length of the song but because of the structure. It was more or less obvious to use the cover for the album as a basis for the animation.

It’s about the struggle with mental health, an all-too-familiar problem, but also about the time one loses while struggling. As long as you’re down, you can’t really participate in life, and that feels like time you’ve lost.

Last time I said, Tears Of An Angel was one of the most important songs for me. Maybe Tomorrow is too, but in a different way. This is the song and mainly the lyrics I was most nervous about releasing.

So let’s step up the game a little bit. Tears Of An Angel was a song that was very important to me. This might be the biggest jump in quality for the animations. I had something in mind like the style of The Little Prince.

Back to the animations. With Fairy Lights Disruption, I did my first steps with world building. The vibe of the song was a nice summer night with fairy lights that occasionally flicker. That’s what I tried to capture.

Too Tough is the only song that doesn’t have its own animation. But this is a great opportunity to show how these animations evolve. At the beginning, there is an idea that is often beyond the skills I have to actually implement it in an animation.

So this was for the first instrumental. As a huge Pink Floyd fan, I liked the idea of music transporting you to another place. So Above Everything is a song that wants to get you away from everything rather than saying you’re above everything.
