So our decision to have Hood survive Wolf 359 was to balance the cosmic scales, and a small tribute to those who served in her. So on this day, let us remember the real HMS Hood which was lost 84 years ago.
Fair winds and following seas. 17/17

Hood would serve with distinction in the Dominion war and was at the forefront of the reconstruction of Cardassia and helped with the Romulan evacuation, finally being de-commissioned in 2396 and moored at the Wolf 359 Memorial station, as a tribute to all those who lost their lives in service 16/17

On Stardate 44002 now NCC-42296, Hood was called to serve in Admiral Hanson's taskforce at Wolf 359. Despite all the odds, despite being partially assimilated and with countless dead the crew did not give up the ship, and so Starfleet decided to rebuild her 15/17

Finally, in 2302 a new Excelsior class ship was laid down, but it would not be launched until 2324 as NCC 2541, the ship would have a long and distinguished career, perhaps not as glamorous as other ships but was always reliable and got the job done. 14/17

The ship was taken to the Tycho Yards (@admiralbuck.bsky.social) and extensively rebuilt, working as a pathfinder for a lot of the technology that would then go onto be implemented as part of the Total Modification Program (TMP) before being passed to the Chal system defence force. 13/17

With the renewed interest in Hood Starfleet accepted a formal proposal to use the name for an upcoming ship, and in 2246 the Constitution class Hood was launched and deployed on a 5 year mission, tragedy would strike in 2268 when Hood was damaged in the M5 Computer trials. 12/17

The remains of the Submarine were located in 2203, and it was discovered that augments had attempted to seize the ship while underwater trying to force open hatches, the captain elected to scuttle the ship to prevent the missiles falling to the augments hands. 11/17

Launched at the height of the eugenics war the ship was immediately deployed into the Indian ocean on patrol. However the ship never returned and the ships fate was unknown, the rising tensions overshadowed the loss and it remained a mystery for decades 10/17

After the Second world War the Royal Navy was reluctant to use the name Hood, if it was to be used it would have to be for a capital ship and in an ever diminishing Navy those were few and far between, that was until the Warspite class SSBN launched in 1994 9/17

A brief interlude to acknowledge the loss of HMS Hood and the 1418 sailors aboard.

The rest of this thread will be told within the fiction of Star Trek and our novel 'We Have Engaged the Borg 8/17

Unfortunately fate would intervene, and on May 24th she was sunk after a short engagement with the German Battleship Bismarck, of a crew of over 1400 only 3 souls survived 7/17

By the time war broke out in 1939 Hood was in desperate need of a refit, however she remained one of the fastest capital ships in the fleet and a potent symbol of power so it was difficult to find time to get her into drydock, the refit was finally scheduled for 1942 6/17

Then perhaps the most famous ship to carry the name prior to 42296, the Admiral class Battlecruiser launched in 1920. She was the largest ship in the world and spent much of her career engaged in 'showing the flag' exercises as the pride of the Royal Navy 5/17

The second Hood was a modified Royal Sovereign class Pre-Dreadnought launched in 1891. She spent the majority of her career in the Mediterranean, ultimately being sunk as a blockship in 1914 at the start of the First World War 4/17

The first ship named HMS Hood was a second rate ship of the line. Launched as 'Edgar' she was renamed Hood in 1860 and had a somewhat lacklustre career and was used for harbour service from 1872-1888 3/17

The Name 'Hood' Originates from the Hood family, and most famously Admiral Samual Hood who served in the Royal Navy from 1741-1794. He saw action in the Seven Year War, the American Revolution (although not all Hood's have been named for him) 2/17
