The attacks in Southcom's area of operations dishonor what former commanders dedicated their careers to upholding: a democratic, rules-based order, the well-being of the personnel they command, and the US Constitution's supremacy.

We know it is unusual for former senior officers to comment on current military issues. But these are not normal times, as Adm. Holsey's abrupt resignation makes clear. (4/5)

US assets are directly violating human rights and US laws governing war powers and who is a "combatant." These former commanders should be troubled by the illegal attacks happening right now. (3/5)

@WOLA_org has had respectful, productive contact with nearly all former commanders. While its human rights record has never been perfect, @Southcom has done more than other commands, including a 30-year-old Human Rights Initiative and outreach to experts and advocates. (2/5)
