This is a fucking nightmare. Owatonna is a rural city with 26,000 people. (Albert Lea, 30 miles south, has 18,000 people, and Mayo closed its labor and delivery in 2019.)

Otherworldly! I took this photo about a year ago near the edge of a cemetery. The birds had streamed overhead as I was walking down a street. They made no sound except like clothes flapping on a clothesline, and this is where they came to roost.

Albert Lea seniors are being shunted all over for hospital beds, so I crunched daily averages for ICU and med surg bed usage in MN this year. SE MN has the LEAST bed availability of any rural area in the state. Mayo is ripping up rural healthcare to help finance its grandiose projects in Rochester.
