I had each set of lab partners add one squirt of each known solution in the well plates according to the paper template. Our school lacks windows, so lights off is pitch black. Fume hood and ViewSonic display screen were indirect light for students.

We tested a number of different solutions. Our best results were with:

1 M NaNO3
1 M KNO3
2 M LiCl
2 M CaCl2
2 M SrCl2
1.2 M BaCl2
1 M CuSO4

Another fun twist is giving each student two unlabeled solutions. I add blue food coloring to make them all look like copper solution. #FunTimes4Everyone
