What became of "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus" (Gal 3:38)? Our very own Saint Paul thrashed essentialism centuries ago . . . and he knew well that "male and female [God] created them" (Gen 1:27).

But lest we despair, he continues: "[W]hen the masses triumph . . . violence should triumph . . . and this is a good symptom, because it means that automatically the descent is about to begin. Today violence is the rhetoric of the period, the empty rhetorician has made it his own."
