We’ve got to appreciate that there is a whole other side to gaming that ‘core gamers’ (icky term) are just not going to be interested in. Heck there are like 5 other sides. We might dabble, but TGA is not just for us. Doesn’t mean we can’t say they look pants, mind.

Why is AA seemingly such a repugnant term?

I think, for me, this is best represented in the RPG category. KCD2 is a far more robust and interesting RPG by most metrics whilst Clair Obscur is deemed a better game that also happens to be an RPG. The narrative of success carries it very far.

Risk of Rain 2 is one of the best roguelikes, but I think Hades is marginally better as a ‘game’ package overall because of its narrative. I’ve played about 100 hours of both, though 🤷‍♂️ and by golly is ROR2 one of the best OSTs ever to do it.

There are also plenty of people who appreciate a fresh and honest interpretation :)
