Writer, artist, and book collector. Love nature, hate Internet. Wizards are cool. The less you know about me, the happier I am.
Behold the Beholder! One of my favorite recent drawings.

Without downloading any new pics, what’s your energy going into 2024?

My Gene Wolfe shelf (plus a few outliers!). Missing from the picture is my copy of Endangered Species. Almost too much Wolfe to fit in one shelf.

Umberto Eco’s “Baudolino” might be my favorite work of fiction of all time. It starts as historical fiction and by the end has nearly completely transformed into Tolkienesque high fantasy. It does a great job at encapsulating medieval beliefs - and it raises the question “What is history, really?”

Finally got this in the mail! And look at that gorgeous cover art by Bruce Pennington. Definitely puts it in continuity with BotNS, the original covers of which were illustrated by Pennington as well.

Been paging through this the last couple days. Guidebook to underworlds from a vaguely unhinged pseudo-historical occultist perspective. Lots of cool pictures of caverns and diagrams of the earth’s mantle. Wouldn’t recommend unless you are like me, and interested in what insane people believe.

What I’m reading this week: Michael Shea’s “Nifft the Lean”. I’ve heard it’s based on Shea’s previous Jack Vance pastiches, and I can definitely see why that’s said. The language used is very “elevated” or “high class”.

Latest addition to my library, and something I just started today. “Nightflyers” by George R. R. Martin. As someone who mainly knows Martin through A Song of Ice and Fire, it’s really interesting to dig into his science fiction.
