Otherwise, you go to Maui to disconnect and not do stuff. Enjoy the weather and waves and have an amazing time. We went to little beach like 5 times when we were there.

It may sound boring, but it actually made the trip and it tells you a ton about being respectful of Hawaiian culture and history.
If you want a fine dining experience Mama's Fish house in Paia is good, there's also some nice shops around there too. you will want to make a reservation though.

The Road to Hana takes all day, from 6am to sundown, the roads are winding and often incredibly narrow but it is the only way you see that side of the island. Just know if you're going to do it, it's a whole day investment. There's a fantastic app that narrates a ton of history to you as you drive.

North in Kihei, there is Ululani's shaved ice. It's famous for a reason, there will be a HUGE line, it's worth the wait.
There are a couple nightlife-y bars that open in Kihei after 7pm but they're forgettable.
There's a small but gorgeous botanical garden up in the hills about 45 minutes away

Perfect spot then. You know about Makena already, only thing there is bring thick sandals or actual shoes if you're going to walk back into the cruising area, there are plants with 2-3 inch long thorns that will punch right through most sandals.
