I am here for the cat pictures. Anything else is just a bonus.
The Coalition had their biggest electoral loss earlier this year on the Federal election. I personally do not think this messaging and policy will help them win future elections.

While it is good to continue to challenge this authoritarian rhetoric and actions, the challenges cannot just be words. Authoritarian actions must be opposed with actions. While the state government of California is taking action, it is not enough. More states must block then Trump administration.

This is potentially the start of more nations having a transactional diplomatic, economic and military relationship with the USA. Recent news have announced US good getting access to markets in Europe, Australia and other nations. This does not mean that other agreements have not been put on hold.

From my experience, the show does a good job at providing an objective review of the situation and potential impacts. I recall the Elon Musk episode was remarkably objective and event flattering given the political climate in the USA. It is like when a teacher can make a boring subject interesting.

If you consider the level of hospital, pharmaceutical and medical businesses dependent on the current system, a full transformation would be a painful undertaking for the USA. It would be worthwhile, but any President that even attempts it, would not be able to stand for re-election.

From my view it seems to be an effort to move regulating responsibilities from the public to the private sector. Companies will be expected to self regulate themselves and their industries. In reality, this will always result in efforts to maximise profits during each financial year.

Yes, I recall reading about the drilling results, but at best that is 3 years away from being an operating mine. It does not help with the proposed tariffs.
July 10, 2025 at 1:27 AM
While the US has its own large operating copper mines primarily in Arizona(I think), their production levels are insufficient for the domestic demand. At best that will increase construction costs within the USA.Most likely, The Trump administration will not implement these Tariffs.

For those that might not know, asbestos is mutagenic. Meaning it can damage you on a cellular level. Yes, it is a great insulator, but not worth the slow painful death 2-5 years after exposure.

July economic numbers will be key for the rest of the year. A second quarter of negative growth would put the US in a recession. Domestic tourism and consumer discretionary spending will demonstrate of the US public has disposable income/ability to borrow more.

If the Trump presidency wanted to revive manufacturing in the USA, a wider implementation of the Biden CHIPS act would be the better strategy. Incentivise development of domestic manufacturing while international imports are still available. Maybe impose tariffs when domestic production is online.
June 9, 2025 at 11:51 PM
While this statement is accurate, when juxtaposed against the overall situation in the US(and other places in the world) the commentary and reactions are understandable. Just commenting on an online platform and seeing things becoming progressively worse; will result in more aggressive comments.

That is true. Damocles did not want any of his inner circle to ever feel safe enough that they could conspire against him. Maybe it is a feature of authoritarian ideology. When everyone is power hungry, it is inevitable that the group fractures and turns on each other.
June 6, 2025 at 12:59 AM
Arguably this is the reality of most fascist regimes. The people at the top tend to turn on each other. Hitler survived multiple assassination attempts by fellow Nazis. Mussolini had to contend with an inner council that wanted him dead. The Trump presidency seems to be following the same steps.

This is likely an example of expectation from the Tesla Board and CxO level leadership or major volatility in the share price. Potentially they want to forestall any investor action this year and push it into next year.
May 17, 2025 at 12:32 AM
I would argue that a more significant event is the downgrade of the US Government debt by Moody. This means much higher rates for any new debt facilities. It will likely cause negative economic growth. Regardless the Trump “faithful” are unlikely to change their views because of sunk cost fallacy.

There will be some delivery delays and pricing issues due to the previous tariffs. However, there will be a large volume of trade over the next 90 days. Most business will try to anticipate a return of the tariffs in 90 days. Warehouse by and logistics will have a massive boom for the 90 days.

I recall wishing I lived in more interesting times back in 1999. I have come to regret that wish.

From memory US Shale oil production needs an oil price of above $60($50 in some established and large operations), an oil price that is below $50 per barrel will result in several operations in the US shutting down. Fro reference Saudi Arabia break even point is around $25 per barrel.

Potentially also increase workplace injuries, since legislation that protects employees seems to be removed in the US.

Climate change is making areas that were previously high yield coffee producers unsustainable. As such, new locations are increasingly in demand. I would not be surprised if Western Spain becomes a major coffee producer in the next 5-10 years.

That is a life long condition. Without suitable medical coverage, people with black lung will have painful lives.

This isn’t even her final outfit. There will be dozens of skins.
April 3, 2025 at 8:16 PM
If the Trump administration was remotely competent they would have emulated the Biden strategy of the CHIPS Act. Facilitate the establishment of domestic manufacturing. If they chose to apply tariffs afterwards, there would be an already established manufacturing capacity to scale up production.

People might not remember, but children used die from measles 70-80 years ago. Vaccines are 1 of the main reason infant mortality was drastically reduced across the world. Even if you survive measles, you will be immunocompromised for years; maybe a decade. Every cold can become pneumonia.
