Explore the ocean with Within the Whale! Our traveling program features a life-size inflatable humpback whale, letting you step inside and discover its 3D anatomy.
Our inflatable Chunk has traveled over 5,000 miles around Maine so far this year!

While Humpbacks off the coast of Maine travel about 1,500 miles on their migration paths, other populations travel close to 5,000 miles to warmer water! The longest Humpback migration documented was over 8,000 miles.

A whale's ribcage is pretty flexible, unlike ours. Their's is able to bend a bit to not break under the intense water pressure they experience on a deep dive.

Here's your chance to high-five a whale!

Whales share the same bone structure in their flippers as we do in our arms

Humpback whales have the longest front flippers of any whale—reaching up to 15 ft long! That’s like high-fiving a small car. 🚗

Message us today to bring the whale to your site!

It's hard to imagine how big whales really are until you are standing right next to one (even if it's an inflatable). Dive into this experience and explore what's within.

The patterns on the flukes (tail fins) of a humpback whale are unique to the individual, just like a human fingerprint.

This is how researchers can identify each whale. Even our inflatable whale has a fluke pattern!

The flukes are usually the last sight we see before the whale takes a deep dive.

Our whale design is inspired by a real whale, Chunk. Chunk was a well-loved Humpback whale regularly spotted in the Gulf of Maine.

She was around 10 years old,& 40 feet long. She was missing a chunk of her dorsal fin.

Chunk sadly passed away in the summer of 2024, but we are continuing her story
