The characters felt like an added bonus. The main character Charlie had so much depth, he felt like a real life person. As for the cats as characters, first I thought it would be hard for me to get into, but I LOVED IT. It made me wish my cats could talk lol. Definitely read this book! #booksky

My fav thing about this book was the humor not only in the internal thoughts but also in the dialogue. The author made everything flow together and having that humor just added to the experience. The writing itself was amazing, I truly felt like I was part of the story not just reading it. #booksky

Overall I think if you wanna read this book you should. It won’t change your life but it’s a great book that helps convey the failures of systems and how people of color are impacted by those systems. And it’s a good coming of age story for young readers!

The chapters where the author describes people in color was def my favorite. I mean the way she used colors to describe so many complex things was beautiful. 😭 I wish there was more of that kinda writing style throughout the whole book which I feel would have made it a bit more enjoyable.

The twist was a shock but in a good way, which did explain why everything felt confusing but I was a lil too confused. 🤔 And at certain points I did find the main character a bit insufferable but I also had so much sympathy for her and found myself rooting for her even when I was annoyed.

And I loveeeee the characters, they are one of my favorite straight couples I’ve read in books. The just constant need to have each other was giving me heart palpitations. 💗
