Well, first time I've hosed by Linux install as a Linux desktop user. Mint Timeshift got me back running without drama or dataloss.

Decided to upgrade one of my Proxmox nodes to a shiny kaby lake i7 because I'm unlikely to feel that I can justify buying 64gb-96gb of DDR5 any time, and 64g of DDR4 on a quad is enough to survive for a week if the bigger Ultra 5 265k goes pop...

Love how easy it is to shut down a node in my 2 […]

We need a pick new names for the meeting rooms in our UK offices of a US company. Good ideas seem hard to come by (it'll likely be something generic). But *bad* ideas, now those we could have fun with

- Famous UK trains (By BR TOPS number only)
- UK Soaps (Rikki and Bianca to be placed next to […]

It's funny how you expect trouble with some things because that's just what you're used to.

Today I needed to connect to a box via console. I normally do that from my work windows machine, and it's an arseache of drivers which aren't signed, oh that model only supports windows 7 and soforth […]

So, ordered a Home Assistant ZWA-2 and ZBT-2 controller to replace a Aeotec Z-StickGen5+ and ZBT-1 Respectively.

ZBT-2:
Replacement was dead easy. We now have all of the Zigbee nodes accessible directly from the controller, and I'm hoping this significantly improves responsiveness and […]

@revk spotted this on Reddit, is this actually you, just surprised that you'd build a page and not reference it on GitHub. And the au domain feels weird...

Well, it took about 3 weeks to notice that a Debian Bookworm update broke IPv4 outbound from my DMZ. IPv6 is getting there I guess!

(net.ipv4.ip_forward seemed to revert to 0 on my reverse proxy VM)

And there comes 4.5.1

A little writeup on 2 node proxmox clusters. You don't need lots of nodes and Ceph for basic home setup, ZFS replication works great!

[Food]

I've got the day off and I'm wandering around Paris today. Vegan patisserie? Don't mind if I do...

Next stop, brutalist architecture tour

(I'm not actually a vegan, but an egg allergy limits my patisserie options rather a lot)

Spirit island with the wife, there are worse ways to spend a Sunday

BBC Archives recommendation: Just enjoyed "1983: Sun, Sand and Sangria in Benidorm | Forty Minutes" with the wife.

It feels a little like a reality version of carry on abroad with a mix of Shirley Valentine.

Features
- Sombreros, because Spain is basically mexico
- "my guest was so drunk he […]

17th October in Surrey, and the living room is now cold enough (19c) for me to run a test of the boiler and make sure the heating system works after it's summer slumber.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn40y9yxkgvo is quite an interesting read.

My take on this is that net metering of solar isn't sustainable from a grid point of view after the first few percent of houses.

Houses produce solar during the day and expect to be able to use energy in the evening […]

My Givenergy Gen2 Inverter dropped off the network last night and took quite a kicking to get back up and running.

Some "Weird stuff" had been happening for the last week which I couldn't put my finger on.

Downside is it's a miserable day and I didn't get my cheap overnight power stored. Hey […]

Security update form Freetrade, a share trading platform.

"Why enable 2FA?
