If you believe so. It’s far more dangerous to create an illusion of safety than to actually understand in what ways we are unsafe and likely will never be. You’ve shared more sensitive data than I have anyways.

The point is, they still have that data. If they have it, it’s not safe regardless of if they sell it. Data breaches are not uncommon, might as well enjoy a harmless discord feature than worry about discord selling data that 3 other companies you use have already sold. It’s an illusion of safety.

I don’t think anyone thinks discord is private, if they do they really shouldn’t. Data collection or not discord absolutely still has access should they deem it necessary. Even telegram will cooperate with police to hand over private chats. No message sent through any open platform is secure.

Anyone who plays a modern pvp game has handed over kernel access to their computer. People are woefully unaware how to actually protect their safety and I think it does more harm than good to act like turning off discord data is actually protection, we need to talk more about the real major risks.

And they can just as easily, if not more easily, obtain that type of info from social media or google. By having an online presence at all you’ve already sacrificed a great deal of privacy. You’ve posted your face to your account even, you can be found from that alone without Bsky selling anything.
December 5, 2025 at 1:53 AM
And to clarify, I do not think discord scraping is ok, but if we’re going to signal out privacy concerns you basically have to start with the first time you open an operating system. No data can be presumed safe unless you are very careful with every single app or website you install, run, or visit.
December 5, 2025 at 1:47 AM
That’s not really dangerous private info? They practically know that stuff already because they facilitate the conversations and activity status messages to begin with. More of your sensitive info is probably being scraped from this platform as we speak than discord checkpoint.

Yea, not that it makes doxxing defensible in any way, but people don’t seem to know their name and address is all available public info. Thats why internet safety matters, since it can be so easily liked to your other information if someone knows your real identity

What data do they use?
