It's Payton, then Barry. I would take both over Brown.
Walter Payton was born in the wrong era. He was incredible in that 70s-80s run dominated offense era, but he was so gifted as a receiver, he'd have made defenses crazy. And still one of the best RB I can remember at blocking/blitz pickup.

This was the list of Best Musical/Comedies from that years Golden Globes.
Any one of those would have made a very strong choice for Best Picture Oscar that year too, but nobody was going to beat Rain Man.
Bulk Durham, Twins, Married to the Mob also released that year. And, of course, Cocktail.
