Challengers (2024), 3 star letterboxd review: not much to really explore past the "holy shit, she's the ball!!!!!!!" realization that this is just "bros before hoes" brought to its logical homoerotic endpoint through viscerally mythologized tennis, which admittedly is a fire thesis to come upon, especially compounded by an obnoxiously entertaining presentation in blaring synths and completely unnecessary camera flexing (shoutout sayombhu mukdeeprom...half his shit is on my watchlist and i'm slacking), but it does end up neutering the characterization of zendaya, whose self-conflict and denial is easily more interesting than that of either of the boys, but who ends up existing solely to serve a necessarily unresolved purpose, as a figure to control or be controlled by, as a canvas to be projected onto in radically heterosexual ways. there's no realized humanity in the end for her, because, well, holy shit, she's the ball.

BLUE EYE SAMURAI letterboxd review: oxford study lol (jk. but this is some deeply and irredeemably sauceless shit. story is fine but the dialogue, pacing, and music is god awful and consistently relies on dogshit western tropes. it's actually impressive—i didn't think it was possible to fuck up a bloody painterly-3D-animated edo period swordfight, but the japanese metallica covers (the fucking japanese metallica covers!!!) proved me dead wrong. watch animations created by and for japanese people instead of neutered orientalist bullshit like this.)
