As a US citizen, I agree with that policy. I've started slowly selling off some US bonds and replacing them with local-currency foreign bonds instead.

Any US investor might be wise to review what % of their bond holdings are foreign and ask themselves if they need to increase that allocation.

He could maybe, I don't know, allow companies to bring new wind and solar projects online that are already in the pipeline?
January 16, 2026 at 8:01 PM
Selling silver at these levels is a no-brainer, and is in no way 'standing on the RR tracks.'

If you've been sitting on a silver position for any duration, this has been a windfall and you would be wise to cash in some or all at this level.

Jus don't short it. Irrational > solvent as they say.

Not at all -- just saying those issuing the credit cards aren't the problem.

Globally, yes, some kind of shift to UBI is sorely needed.
January 16, 2026 at 2:51 PM
I've been trimming SLV almost daily it feels like to keep it balanced. And its just an anecdote, but a friend who hoarded silver for most of his life is unloading it all this weekend.

What I can't figure out is who is BUYING at these prices?

"Sell high" has never been so clear.

The big banks actually do pay their employees pretty well, from what I can find.
January 16, 2026 at 2:42 PM
Huh? She didn't capitulate at all, she just gave a madman a meaningless trinket.

If it buys her an audience where she might put thoughts in his head that lead to a 1/1,000,000 chance for a better outcome for her people, any of us would do the same.

Who cares about a medal? Only him. I applaud her.
January 16, 2026 at 2:33 AM
Of course she won't. But it was right to try anyway.

Some unexpected people have shown the ability to charm him. Mamdani is a good example. If Machado has that rare gift, it was worth a try. The actual trophy means nothing to anybody. Except him. If there is a 1:1000 chance it helps, whats to lose?
January 16, 2026 at 2:18 AM
True. What if we just got away with the "unrealized gains" thing? That way they're paying a lot more than 1% or 5%. If all their unrealized billions of capital gains were taxes like regular income, that would make a much bigger impact. Feasible? Worthwhile?
January 14, 2026 at 1:37 AM
Is it viable to get the whole country on board with this?

What is the saying, is it 3% of the population on the streets protesting at once is enough to make a difference? 4%?

Is it something achievable I wonder?
January 14, 2026 at 1:28 AM
On second thought, I take it back. That is too much.

When added to federal tax, 3%/yr of net worth to the state would be hard for many people to sustain.

There is never an easy answer to this. We need less govt spending and more taxes, clearly, but exactly how to do it is always tricky.
January 14, 2026 at 1:24 AM
That would raise about $11 billion annually, just a bit over 3% of CA expenditures. It's not nothing, but it wouldn't really move the needle significantly.

1% on all CA households would generate ~$60B. A little better. But we should probably go to maybe 3% annually on all households to really help.

Just don't ask which ... nobody knows!
January 9, 2026 at 8:52 PM
And USA
January 3, 2026 at 2:34 PM
Sadly that is true. But for most in the middle-class third, it is some welcome good news to offset the damage done by this administration to the US economy and cost of living.

Wins feel rare these days. I'll take them when we can get them. We are a resilient country, and this is a good reminder.

I mean to say, people don't require a ladder of apprenticeships in order to develop into artists.

AI doesn't diminish our interest or capacity to create it ourselves.
December 30, 2025 at 4:45 PM
I disagree. People don't make art because it is a job. We make art because we like to create.

People still play chess even though computers can do it better. We still run races and lift weights even though machines are faster and stronger.

We will always be making art, even when AI does it better.

Besides it being a lie or not, why is this even notable? The war ends without Putin, right? Am I missing something? Wouldn't you always want to target enemy leadership in a war?
December 30, 2025 at 3:06 PM
Touche. Vance can clearly never win an election now the the country has gotten to know him. But you're right -- if Trump is removed (or dies) before 2028 we will have President Vance, who will indeed be worse for Ukraine. Let's hope it never comes to that.
December 25, 2025 at 8:15 PM
Ironically, this was the first 60 Minutes segment I've seen in at least a decade. I never would have watched it had it not been banned.
December 24, 2025 at 7:06 PM
I'm curious, is this actually fully legal? Like, why not set up an official "buy a pardon for $1 million" web page and sell them directly? Would those pardons still be valid?
December 24, 2025 at 5:43 PM
Just act like Ukraine will accept "something" of a deal, in order to keep US aid flowing. The goal should be to keep stringing Trump along until he is gone, since the next govt will be more pro-Ukraine.

But be careful: in the last days of Trump, Putin will accept all deals to try to lock in gains.
December 24, 2025 at 5:26 PM
I'm sorry -- but where and when has anyone EVER apologized "for being white?" Literally no one, ever, is my guess?
December 22, 2025 at 2:19 PM
Maybe CBI. Conditional basic income?

Trump does seem to like cash-for-all payments. If he wasn't hellbent on slashing revenue, maybe we could have had a good shot at UBI this term.

He can recommend anything he wants, but parents and doctors will still give children vaccinations. He may be stupid, and the administration evil, but thankfully most parents and doctors are neither.
