opened temple run to try to distract myself from the crushing despair and this game which has remained largely unchanged since I was in middle school seemingly randomly decided to give me a charming little halloween man to play as. maybe living is worth it

fires of purgatory, or even as a reanimated corpse, but the ghost would generally always have a physical body. ghosts as transparent apparitions didn’t become a thing until the invention of photography and the phantasmagoria. more info in the alt text (2/)
“spirit photography” became popular soon after the invention of photography. a photo could be altered to give the appearance that a (generally translucent) specter was present the phantasmagoria was a show in which light was used to project the images of spirits on the walls. the translucent appearance and floaty-ness of these projected images helped popularize ghosts as we see them today
