To be fair, US media, dominated by US intelligence, WAS constantly disseminating fake news about Castro. It continues to this day (a large % of Cuban exiles are descendants of corrupt Batista cronies/capitalists, mobsters, etc; their version of Castro is as suspect as the Cuban government's own).
