not to mention by virtue of their own existence (and how successful they've been) they crowd out other, more unique character models and figures that could be sold, especially in comic/game stores, which are already niche to begin with. it kind of reminds me of flattened corporate art

they're visually unappealing, overly expensive and same-faced, to the extent that characters lose the original artistic-emotional fabric and appeal. it's also supposed to capitalize on a scarcity/exclusivity demand, but since they have Every Single Character in existence that's kind of ruined too
