2. I take the pronouns/names/terms your parents use for *you* with a huge grain of salt. sometimes they're like "my daughter" and I'm like "sure"

I share these thoughts bc if I got to meet an artist I care about, I might be haunted by either of these scenarios... feeling like my parents had made me offensive by association, or that they misrepresented my identity. all of it could feel like it messed up my special moment

1. sometimes at the merch table your parents misgender me and I see the horror/dismay/panic on your face because you don't feel safe correcting them and I just want you to know that it's okay, it doesn't reflect on you

so, just know that I see you as a person independent of what your parents are doing or saying

I knew all this was going to happen. But nothing can really prepare you for what it feels like when the moment actually arrives. This is why we need each other and our communities. I plan to turn to them a lot in the coming years.
