New from me: Today marks the 50th anniversary of “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” release in the U.S., on Nov. 19, 1965. I wrote up a piece with OPB after talking to 3 ppl involved in this project and Indigenous mental health. I also visited the hospital museum last month.

Just received this lovely beaded poppy, handmade by Vancouver BC-based Heiltsuk artist Raquel Lockhorst yesterday evening, just in time for countdown to Remembrance Day on Nov. 11. It’s important to support Indigenous artists when the internet is flooded with vendors selling fake Indigenous artwork.

“His Chinese was so good! American journalist interviewed Yang Hansen in Chinese.” “The OPB journalist was so well prepared to conduct the interview with Yang Hansen in Chinese.” I take these headlines on Chinese digital news platforms as compliments — and I’m already blushing.

This is one of my favourite photos I took during my CBC years in Kelowna. I’m glad that whoever picked it up for a story published today about the passing of the artist behind the iconic sails statue.

Done watching Liberals’ leadership debate tonight. 4 Anglophones debated in their 2nd language (French) in Montreal. As expected, Trump was the biggest topic. No matter who’ll be the next leader and, per Westminster system, the next PM, I learned a lot of French by reading subtitles. #fiercanadien 🇨🇦

No googly eyes on public art! That’s the message Bend city officials conveyed to local residents on Facebook this week. They said, for instance, it’ll cost them $900 to climb to the lofted Rising Phoenix to remove the eyes and refurbish the red paint on the sculpture. Many residents disagree.

During the first Trump administration, immigration enforcement sowed chaos across PNW, spurring legal challenges and fear. Legal experts and immigrant communities expect that to happen once more when President-elect Donald Trump returns to the White House in January. ✍️: Conrad Wilson. Design mine.

The 17-year-old me, with my high school principal (he passed away last December). I was in the students’ union room taking a final review of the school’s newspaper that was published twice every year.

Experimenting with text animation, which I tried to balance between being too fancy and being dull, and to match animation with the mood of belongingness.

Nail salons provide not only business opportunities for their owners, but also third spaces — outside of work and home — where they and their clients can feel connected and be themselves. Esp true for owners of color and LGBTQ in (still pretty white) Central Oregon.

Red-fleshed apples have been on Earth for centuries, but it’s only until ‘50s and ‘60s were they discovered in Oregon and began grown. Now it’s an apple variety well sought after by cider makers for its tastes likened to those of wines. 📸: Jeff Kastner (1,2) & Crystal Ligori (3,4). Design mine.
