The YUGE problem is that no one is ever held accountable for their terrible predictions. In any sane universe, this was 100% predictable. Anyone with such terrible judgement should never be listened to again on any substantive topic. But, no acknowledgment that they were wrong, let along an apology!

I don’t think of this as giving space. I think of this more as an “my enemy’s enemy is my friend” situation. The bar is so low with this example I doubt you could find anyone to object.

I do t think I understand what you are advocating for. Per your comment, giving space doesn’t seem to be comprised of coddling, discussing, understanding, debating, or comforting… So, what does it mean to give someone space to leave a cult?

I’m not willing to forgive someone for stabbing me without a pretty good apology. I think most people would be happy to accept them back if they show contrition and take responsibility for their actions. They need to make amends. The onus is on them. Otherwise, they can fuck all the way off.

Forget the story - even if everything was executed perfect it is still total BS. That precious resources were prioritized for the investigation and reporting of this story when the world is on fire is nuts! As if this is the most impactful thing they could spend their time and money investigating?
