My middle son has two speeds when lying down to go to sleep: Fidget like he's got fleas and still-as-a-stone. There is no in between. It's an instant switch and I have no idea why it winds me up so much.

There is a person I follow on Substack who provides a prompt word and allows you 70 words to write about it. It's become a highlight of my day. Gargoyle was today's. Enjoyed thinking around that one.

I really don't have the right temperament to deal with a system like Ticketmaster on a Saturday morning. I mean, it really is a backwards way of getting tickets, isn't it? If there was a physical queue you could be rewarded for being early. I love the modern world but, sometimes, I also despise it.

Saw a local author publicise his book of short stories so nabbed myself a copy. Always interesting to read a different and other-worldly perspective of a local area of beauty 💙📚

Needed a book a little easier to digest after finishing two titles that were as heavy and dense as a Christmas Cake. No.23 Burlington Square has so far been the right tonic 📚💙

Me: What's that?
YS: Cat rage. The one with pictures.
Me: ???
YS: They have a big screen and they have to guess the picture.
Me: Catchphrase?
YS: Yeah! Cat Rage!

It's been a day and a half of being ill and I still suck at it.

I have a theory that if I'm reading well I'm more likely to write well. That's the theory anyway🙄. I've re-read plenty of texts from when I was younger but I'd never read Mockingbird. Just finished it now. Like, five minutes ago. I think this one will be rippling through my mind for a good while 💙📚

I'm not good at being ill; especially on a weekend/holiday. The combination of stubbornness and FOMO grates on me mentally. So I need your cures for sore throat and chest infection (both physically and mentally). Books I'm sorted for, but short TV series or quality movies would be helpful!

The good news: Bagged my second of the Yorkshire Three Peaks yesterday. Whernside was a gusty challenge but a wonderful hike with the family.

The bad news: Camping had to be abandoned a day early. Storm last night and another to follow later. Shame, but no fun for anyone that!

Newbie question: One of the things I used to like about X was the connection to current events. Is that possible on here? Like finding out more about Storm Lilian, for example

Storm Lilian causing all sorts of petty havoc in our corner of North Yorkshire this morning. Power cut at the gym. Dodging wheelie bins on the drive home. Securing the trampoline to the grass more. Friend went camping near Whernside last night. He's fine. His tent is no more though 🎪💥🌬
