12 years ago today I climbed Mt. St. Helens. Not the biggest I've done but was the baddest due to the steepness & the terrain. Feels forever ago but I remember it very well. Would be a very different this year ...

Swapping braid lines on diver reels; ‘fresh’ line closest to the spool on one reel (seldom seen the sun or elements) will now be on the outside of the other reel.

Does it matter? Idk. Maybe. I think so. Ginger isn’t sure but she listened to my case.

On October 3, the Sam Laud arrived in the early morning to unload gypsum

Gale will stay here for most of the week. And it’s why most seasons, October fishing just doesn’t work out.

We finished the season with two and three year kings. The best season overall for kings in 10 years and the best fall for non-mature kings in the same span of time. Stocking increases are working and should point to better seasons ahead for kings. Many lake trout catches before these that I’ll post

Heavy current between 15 & 30 feet down. That’s the thermocline on the screen; detritus separated by warmer water on top & colder water down below, being stirred & scattered by the current going one direction up top & the other direction down below. Lower current moving S & upper current moving N.

We got the new floor dirty yesterday. The new, 2x flow, 6gpm water pump I put in Thursday definitely helping the cause

Out with old and in with the new, floor. The tile mats have served me well, mostly so, for 18 years; 3 different varieties. But it was time to make the investment and modernize the ol’ Indy with the latest and greatest.

And say hello to the J-man who’s posing too 🤣🤣🤣

Yesterday morning, we caught a white or ivory fleshed chinook (king) salmon. Been many years since we have done so. It has an adipose fin which indicates it’s a naturally reproduced fish.

We don’t get many guests from Michigan over on this side. But this morning I showed them what the west side of the lake can do too. We’re fishing unusually shallow at the moment so we’re able to mix in some big brown trout in the catch as well 💥

Big beautiful kings

The king salmon rebound in Lake Michigan… is underway. It’s been 10 long years waiting for this. And it’s happening.
August 11, 2025 at 10:28 PM
Don & Jack haven’t been able to get out in three years. The lake gave it back to them today. We’re witnessing a king salmon comeback this season. Best king bite in 10 years and I’m chugging it down.

The big brown trout offshore is an anomaly. But we’ll swallow that too
