i genuinely didn't recognize you underneath all the colors at first

to me the key to its inclusion in wonder was that the entire conceit of that game was that it was full of surrealist oddities that didn't quite match what you would normally expect; the game that just keeps doing odd stuff to you having talking flowers just adds another oddity to the pile

there is also something to be said about how much it harms the atmosphere that there are guys, but the joss whedon-type man seems to just be one of many

prime 4 has little quests along the way where you team up with assorted random federation guys to get upgrades, but a press demo both made a really bad first impression with which guy and didn't make it apparent that he wasn't perpetually gonna stick around after you helped him

i liked it fine in wonder because it felt like a hyperspecific novelty at the time that was sometimes cute or funny, but i really should've seen the writing on the wall on that one that they wouldn't put that much effort into something to only do it once
it was actively annoying in bananza though

playtest overcorrection + nintendo's new obsession with having voices talk at you or about you while you play games (see also: talking flower becoming a mario series mainstay, pauline in bananza chatting constantly, the zelda cutscenes if you really wanna reach about it)
