The Scottish Languages Bill would likely make it unlawful to do what Falkirk Council proposed. If a council doesn't offer Gaelic education itself, it will have to support families to access it elsewhere. And it would have to show that altering transport arrangements would bring educational benefits

This is an ahistorical and somewhat misleading analysis. Alan Titley gave the best summary of why referring to the Irish language as 'Gaelic' is problematic

This was my summary of the evidence concerning the role of corporal punishment in suppressing Gaelic in schools in Scotland. Much of this aligns with the Welsh evidence though much more research is needed

The Scottish Government has just published its response to the Report of the Short Life Working Group on Economic and Social Opportunities for Gaelic (June 2023). It would have been helpful to have this in the spring,when scrutiny of the Scottish Languages Bill began 1/3
