I’m a techy dad (he/him). I do AV conference design for Amazon, very niche job but pretty chill. Svelte fan. I’m dipping my toes in rust & go lately, but nothing serious, like my opinions.
It stings more now that my family has been targeted using Meta’s services for scams & caused so much pain. I can’t support anything on their platform. (Not that I use them much last few years)

I need to go back to my website projects & fix stuff, svelte had a lot of recent QoL updates I could use

Dealing with my dad a few states away having cognitive decline/grieving/burning his money on scammers, my mom will pass away from her LONG 10y+ dementia any day...

And our #2 kid (another boy) is knocking on the door, wanting to be born any day. Both of us fighting a cold. Beautiful madness!

My son and I are addicted to pokemon tcgp game. Its great free fun. He asks if we’ll get a shiiiny pokemon. Probably starting him on an addiction too early…

I called this Amazon layoff from 3 months ago. Though I think I was wrong, AI is the cover for shareholders sure, they are not replacing folks with AI its just reducing cost
willy.life Willy @willy.life · Jul 25
So AI is very expensive. Shareholders will want to see more layoffs to offset the cost and showcase the promise that "We won't need to pay poor humans anymore".

I think we'll see layoffs continue for the next few years in parts of the industry as companies try to judge how far they can go.

Lost 2 really amazing PMs on my team in today’s layoffs

I can’t tell you, the void of blueSky, the pain of talking to your father as he gives away all his info to scammers.
October 21, 2025 at 12:36 AM
Man. My dad got on a call with some scammers pretending to investigate fraud on his accounts. So he gave them all his cards. Sister tried to stop him and he wouldn’t stop. He seemed a little mentally off. It took us a lot of effort to stop him. Hoping we can undo whats done.

Q: “Most hospitals + people who will lose insurance are in rural areas. If Trump & Republicans are so intent on sticking it to their own voters, why not let them?”

@aoc.bsky.social : “That’s the difference between us & Trump. I don’t care if you voted for me, I want you to have health care.”

Someone at work unplugged my car while charging. The spot next to me was open, but probably reserved. They looked confused walking around, then just went behind my car and unplugged it. Which notifies folks waiting that my spot is open...only to find a jerk car not charing in it 😤

Does AI make meh folk who are not curious at all, have no patience for solving problems into productive devs?

I’ve decided the best way for me to start getting more into rust is to convert my sveltekit website’s database API over to axum cause after building my side project to functional, I want full control of my APIs and they are very simple to copy. I wasn’t taking full advantage of sveltekit tbh

Big brain idea: Instead of building a tool that outputs REAL errors of what went wrong…what if we generated a link thats devs could then paste into a CLI AI tool that then scans all the logs and tells you what really is the problem: We don’t support python 3.12 yet, no I wont tell you what version

At least when my toddler says “I wanna help” with everything, he’s cute

Can’t say that about certain vendors who don’t listen 😑

I need to start a rust project to really home in my tutorial learnings of the language

My hardest challenge right now funny enough is structure design - how should my folders and files be setup etc

I'm the same age and our kid is also same age as his oldest. Just really hits different being a parent. I just really pray his family finds healing eventually, explaining death of a parent to a 4ish year old is just....I hope communities stop feeding violence online.

After a decade in the AV industry, finally got my CTS cert

As no one on here probably knows what that is, its a basic industry cert for the process of building and designing conference rooms. Mostly PM stuff. Ohms law. Knowing that fiberglass ladders are the best. What a TRS cable is.

During a code review, my coworker left a handful of comments for another team member. I told him all his issues with the code, rust wouldnt have let him write. He pretty much just rustified some javascript

Muhaha

I told my very impatient son how to open those 2-pack starbust packages cause my hands are full cleaning dishes. He immediately proceeded to abuse this power and opened up all this candy.

What have I done 😱
