I’ve spent most of my week panic-buying English & Welsh 1858+ wills before Monday’s price hike. I’ve done most of them, just a few more for my #OnePlaceStudy & inspect the rest of the list for my own family tree. I’m going to have a lot of filing to do! #GenHour

This sums up my #OnePlaceWeenesday! I ordered all the wills I identified for my #OnePlaceStudy & need to download those that are ready. I created a spreadsheet of people in my #FamilyTree who died 1858+ & am deciding which of those wills to buy. Will then look at possible other #OnePlaceStudies!

Welcome to #GenHour! Some silent fireworks in honour of the UK’s Guy Fawkes/bonfire night yesterday 🎇 Anyone else madly ordering post-1858 wills?

All 1858+ wills for those buried in #Sudbourne before 1942 have now been ordered 🥳 Just hope Iron Mountain can find them all 🙄 I’ve screenshotted every will I’ve ordered in case they quibble. Now to check my family tree (hopefully have most of those) & various other projects 😫

Apologies for the delay, it is indexed by a variety of subjects including place. As soon as it arrived I honed in on ‘my’ diarist!

I was so excited to receive this book last week - it's about life on the home front in Devon in #WW2, & features diaries from someone in my #OneNameStudy! The book is by Todd Gray, who used diaries from the #MassObservation Archive to bring this interesting period of history to life #GenHour

I was thrilled to find this book on school log books by @fachrs.bsky.social! I wish I’d been a member during this project, as I’d have contributed my #Sudbourne school log books transcriptions

On Monday I start the Pharos course ‘ Education and Childhood 1820 to 1920’ - I'm excited to to discover some background & context for my research into #Sudbourne school. While checking my personal library for books on the reading list, I found this one, which I’d forgotten about

Don’t forget to look at the county information in the front pages of Kelly’s, White’s & Pigot's directories. They can contain useful information about ancient history, geography & agriculture, as these images of pages from the 1855 White´s Directory show

Today I’m at The National Archives - once of my happy places! I’m researching 1910 Valuation Act records for my own #FamilyHistory & another one-placer & some Ordnance Survey Object Name Books, amongst other things

Day 25: graveside ornament
Ok…not strictly a graveside ornament as it wasn’t left there for the occupant of the grave, but - after giving me a fright - it did make me smile

One piece of genealogical excitement for me this week is finalising my document order for a trip to The National Archives on Wednesday. I’m copying 1910 Valuation Act records for another one-placer, & some for villages adjoining my study in case I need them #GenHour

Hope everyone has had a good week. We had a fun weekend - visited #Southsea Model Village! Residents of my #StreetStudy would have been familiar with it, as it was built in the 1950s. Several local businesses & artists are featured #GenHour

Day 17: Relocated. This is #Glanamman, where one of my earliest Jones ancestors is buried. Unfortunately I don’t know exactly where in this churchyard he is, as all the graves - including his - have been relocated to the edges. But I’m very glad they’re still there!
