I felt the same. It took me a little while to find the fun, but ended up really enjoying it.

Six months since I finished it and I'm getting the itch to visit those worlds again

Right there with you. Oblivion was THE game that made me get a 360 back in the day. Probably the only game I've ever hit 100% on twice

I'm a career changer. Went from marketing (8 yrs) to game design.

My strategy was to get familiar with Unreal & make a mini portfolio, leverage that to do a 1yr game design course focused on portfolio building, then leverage that to break into the industry. Worked for me but mileage may vary
