My rule for work parties when I was a newb was to look around and count at least 5 people more drunk than me. If I couldn't see 5, I was one of the drunks and had to leave. This was in the 80s and the drinking culture was strong. Once saw a former senator get carried out. Was time to go for me

I would agree with anything by Winston Groom. Prob not Forrest Gump, but the WW1 book was informative to me.
