During a policy breakdown at the federal level, our community is dedicated to supporting one another. The fresh food drive this afternoon distributed over 400 boxes of healthy fruits and vegetables. Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen.

An exciting time at OPPD as AMI meter deployment is about to begin. Great to have something as helpful and critical to the clean energy transition on the on cover of our local paper.

Happened faster than I expected. Got an out of state, political-consultant-driven text this afternoon. My first contribution to @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social was right afterward.

I'll be encouraging others to contribute $9 to signal being tired of fundraising as the primary outreach we receive.

Last stop of the trip is at a charger in the parking lot of a hotel. Great to have charging for people who are at hotels, but L2 is the answer here. I’m sitting in a parking lot with literally nothing within walking distance in any direction.

Glad the charger is here, wish it were somewhere else.

My next stop is at Electrify America, in a Walmart parking lot. Unfortunately, 2 of the 4 CCS stations were out of order, and 1 was dramatically reduced power. I got to the last one, and had to apologize to the driver who got stuck with the slow one about 1 min after I arrived.
July 22, 2025 at 12:13 AM
Heading for my return trip. The L2 charger where I was staying had a problem so I am fast charging before hitting the interstate.

ChargePoint: out of service 😒😡

Tesla: parked every other, in a way I couldn’t access a charger, eventually was able to nose in.

Some process improvements are needed.

And that’s it, destination reached. Overall, everything went great. I’ve got plenty of range for my time in Denver the next couple days. I’ll probably recharge with a L2 one of the days, and be ready for the return trip.

EV roadtrips are possible with not much planning. Everyone should try it 🚙🔌⚡️👍

Me: “I came to the charger and was really glad to find your place just across the street. The EV charger is 100% of the reason I am here.”

Brewer: “Oh yeah, we get several people per day who tell me that.”
July 18, 2025 at 7:14 PM
People still say, “EVs don’t have enough power and can’t meet all my long distance, and heavy duty needs.”

Arriving just as I left, this guy with a Ford Lightning isn’t here for any of that nonsense.

No idea what was going on with charging speed; was it the vehicle, or the charger…?

But also, I couldn’t find a clear description of pricing. It was $/kWh and then also maybe $/minute. No idea what behavior they were dis/encouraging. That should be more clear up front.

I’ve been to Sterling, CO before so I was thrilled when I found the station. Biggest possible shouts to the planners who put the DCFC in the public lot at the brew pub.

Ideal layout: people need somewhere for a break, the EV can charge, while supporting a high value-add local business.
July 18, 2025 at 6:08 PM
Rolled in with range left, although I would not have made it to the next city. I checked the station before I left, saw someone else actively use it, so I felt confident to pass the station in the last city.

Another charger where the cable won’t reach the charging port in the parking space.

Back on the road to continue my electric adventure. Having driven an EV every day for ~10 years, I don’t have any range anxiety even on this trip. I know where I’m headed, I know there is a charger available, and I’ll make it there very easily. Driving range estimates in my Mach E are very accurate.
July 18, 2025 at 3:32 PM
The last part of the drive went smooth and easy, I’m glad to be in for the night.

Unusually cool temps for mid-July meant no AC, and even at interstate speeds this was a very efficient trip.

There isn’t a charger where I’m staying, but I’ll easily do a couple hours in the morning before charging.

By the time I had made those other posts, I was all full up and ready to roll.

Onward!

I ate quickly on my own, and by the time I was done, the car had made it to 80% and charging speed had dropped significantly.

Road trip fuel for the human as well.
July 18, 2025 at 2:13 AM
Charging speed started strong. I actually don’t want it to charge much faster than this anyway and I don’t intend to use fast chargers very often because of the additional wear on the battery.
July 18, 2025 at 2:12 AM
The FordPass app from @fordmotorsofficial.bsky.social helped me see DCFC locations, with prices with @electrifyamerica.com being most expensive, then ChargePoint, and Tesla supercharger being cheapest.

My vehicle came with the NACS to CCS adapter and I’m glad to finally get a chance to use it.
July 18, 2025 at 2:08 AM
First stop was for the human who foolishly drank a bunch of water and needed a break after about 2 hours, way before the car would have needed to stop.

Back on the road to keep rolling.

I am on my first EV roadtrip in my MachE. Started from home with a full charge (extended range battery, 91 kWh).

Let’s see how this goes…

Reminder that nuclear alone also does not provide 99.999% uptime. It is 4-9s away from that. If that really is the goal, there is no resource by itself that can provide that outcome.
