3/ As the CDC continues to report a promising national decrease in drug overdose mortality, our findings highlight that this progress may not be shared equally across parts of the US.

2/ This divergence was driven by overdoses due to synthetic opioids like fentanyl, which have been increasingly co-involved with stimulants. Of all fentanyl overdose deaths in the West in 2023, approximately one in two also involved methamphetamine.
