This version definitely has more of a high-science-fiction style to it, as compared to the final version.

It was a lot of fun working with @creadfectus.bsky.social on this, and I very much enjoyed watching him bring the scenery to life in real time!

More to come soon! 🏃

I very much appreciate every single bit of support, doubly so for those who have taken time from their busy schedules to leave a review!

One step at a time, and one book at a time, we’ll make this series into one to remember! 😈

As for myself, I kept my expectations right down at ground level, hoping for nothing more than the support of friends and family while I slowly got the series off the ground. But—to my great surprise—Child of Sorrow has outpaced my (not so lofty) expectations!

A new book from an unknown author is always a risky business, and not just for the writer! An interested reader never knows just what they might end up with when choosing books without an already established back catalogue, or fan base.

This gives me oldschool Earthsiege/Starsiege art vibes from waaaaaay back. I'm not old, who's old?

Love it!

From the characters themselves, to the buildings in the distance and the craft flying overhead, it was at this point that many of the details of the final image had started coming to life!

Change is at the heart of TAS, and everything that happens, does so for a reason. Keep that in mind as we continue forwards—this is a true story ‘universe’, and the events that occur throughout the narrative are interconnected in ways you might not expect!

Who doesn’t love flowcharts? I do! But what is this flowchart trying to say? Is that SIX arcs? Five books per arc? That’s THIRTY books?! Am I crazy? Probably! Certainly, hearing that would be more than enough for most career writers to raise their eyebrows in my direction.

You will be able to see how the actions of the past stretch into the future and impact the decisions of tomorrow, and all throughout it all, the mystery will only deepen!

That's one of the greatest distinctions separating TAS from a lot of other series—the nature of the universe itself is one of the main narrative drivers. Every arc of the story will undergo major shifts as the scale and scope of the setting changes and grows.

Most story universes spend their pages building up the setting that their characters live in, but after having accomplished that, how often do you see the very nature of that setting transform?

In this tale of horror and loss that leaves only unanswered questions in its wake, all the suffering and trauma that Julius experiences might make you might think this is a revenge story, but that's the thing with this universe. Everything is changing, all the time.

Ohhhhh, love this one!

The video game series "Dead Space" was the main influence, though there were plenty more besides—such as Warhammer 40k! I wanted to know what chance humans could have against a malicious super-intelligence, and spent an entirely unreasonable amount of time thinking about it. This was the result!
