What happens to citizen observers after they’re retained? I feel like *more* press is needed to show what’s happening

What kind of attire would you recommend for the world-wide celebrations when It Happens?

Almost everything by The Smiths by the first note/chord. Something so unique about Johnny Marr’s guitar voicing

💯

I’m following the opsec/RR discussion on Bluesky and it really feels like some on the left have a big challenge with discarding old beef

Stancil seems to be throwing it away for the good of MN but some people he locked heads with in the past all hold on like it’s precious and I can’t understand why

Time needs to do a last minute adjustment to their cover

As someone who works in the visual effects industry, in which, and you'' excuse my French, we get pixel-f*cked to death on details that *no one* will ever notice, not even the perverts who watch movies frame by frame, this drives me mad.

It will take away my job and mess it up too.

Brilliant.

I mean… I’m exaggerating about the 1/100 but I just don’t see a “real life” film being both entirely made with AI *and* having lasting artistic appeal made anytime soon

An interesting bet though! We’d need an objective way to measure artistic appeal, and rules defining what an AI film is

It’s like looking at a bad wax statue vs a real human being. At a split-second glance, it looks plausible, but the more you look at the statue, the more horrifying and dead it becomes

Hey, it’s possible (even probable) that one day there will be an AI-created work that promotes an Ebert “okay fine video games can be art” revelation for AI

But this pile of shit definitely ain’t it. I think we’re *years away* from an AI-gen 1776 piece that’s 1/100 as artful as Ken Burns
January 30, 2026 at 12:57 AM
Caring about the process of how art is made matters to some people. Hearing that an artist plagiarized a slapping hook can make one reflexively and retroactively dislike the song

If your appreciation of art is just about its consumption and not its creation, I see why you feel the way you do

No doubt. Tell people a red candy is cherry and they’ll taste cherry, raspberry and they’ll taste raspberry. Humans cannot block expectations from biasing their experience

But that doesn’t mean there isn’t a taste difference between cherry and raspberry, or that a preference for one is invalid

That’s a curious example—a lot of people made fun of GoT for it and it’s a mistake that lasts only a few seconds

An AI VO will repeatedly suck for its entire duration. AI video will generally feel weightless, unnatural, sterile and oddly sharpened throughout its runtime

It’s not an ai persecution
January 29, 2026 at 9:54 PM
A reviewer might say that the VO is bad because it’s AI because that’s a succinct way of saying that it lacks emotion, has weird timing and pacing, and the phrasing and melodic variation is unnatural and awkward

AI generated media tends to share similar problems and many (not everyone) notice that
January 29, 2026 at 9:26 PM
Nothing has any weight or have proper dimension, ex the carriage seems to be above the ground, the declaration document seems to be written on marshmallow, and almost all the shots have an aimless pan and unnecessary slow motion

It’s weird that some people can’t see the glaring problems of ai video

I’m fascinated by the people who see the trailer and think it looks anything other than complete ass
January 29, 2026 at 7:04 PM
ICE thinks that since they have to hide their own faces to avoid responsibility or shame, then the resistance needs that as well

But this is not a shared trait between the two. The people in these resistance mugshots will get high-fives and free drinks

Me too ! I was completely uninterested and mildly afraid of them until my son was old enough to go on the non-kiddie coasters, and now I love them so much

Reminds me that I need to get down to Magic Mountain. They’ve added like half a dozen since I was last there 6 years ago (just before COVID)

I hope the entire world boycotts us. Kicks us out of the Winter Olympics, boycotts the World Cup, fires off the trade bazooka. Everything.

It’s gonna suck living here for it but there’s no other acceptable ethical position. The response has to severely hurt both reputation and revenue
January 24, 2026 at 9:52 PM
Oh no this pains me because I love D&D and the Cure, but also this dude is fucking comically awful and I want his interests to be light years away from mine
January 24, 2026 at 5:44 AM
He is comically awful. The Greenland / Peace Prize email is so ridiculous that it strains our own reality testing.

We’re cooked if we can’t get at least 1/4 of the republicans to see how terrifyingly Nero/Caligula this is
January 20, 2026 at 8:35 AM
Some believe that we’ll elect good people and reverse the policies and everything will be good again. I hope so! But the rest of the world will remember—for many generations—that we couldn’t contain Trump’s worst actions while he was president and won’t trust us.

MAGA has fucked us for 50 years
