Just to give you an excuse to visit the end of the Metropolitan line again another time, the most direct walking route to Amersham Town’s ground from the station is a right-of-way over a field that crosses the railway tracks (no bridge).

I’m planning to be at the Hemel-Torquay game this afternoon as a neutral. It was tempting to buy an away ticket just for the fun of it, but I had visions of me needing to maintain an increasingly ludicrous Devon accent to placate a group of bigger boys as the afternoon wore on.

I’d forgotten about the lift! The stairs must be too steep/narrow even for a fleet of street escalators, like the ones you see elsewhere.

I spent a few weeks in Bilbao about 10 years ago when I was between jobs, and Santutxu’s ground wasn’t far from where I was staying. Happy memories of climbing up the big hill from the old town to watch their early kick-offs on a Sunday morning.
