I recall that a Boston patrol cop's work diary from the 1800s was found (hidden is a wall, methinks) and later published. I saw a citation to it somewhere, but the details escape me. Not sure this counts as a memoir. I will dig around my office today.

It's good to see NIBIN and Pete Gagliardi's influence in action. The last 12 years have seen ATF invest heavily in making NIBIN a key investigative tool for local agencies. Crucial work that has remained invisible to the public.

For a little additional context, there are almost 18,000 separate police agencies in the US. About 3,300 County sheriffs offices. And city/town police agencies, and transit/airport/housing/parks (etc). Fragmented and locally controlled
