There really is no worthy competitor to Google Drive. You'll never get a corrupt file due to simultaneous editing by multiple people. The Google Docs suite of apps are fully compatible with Microsoft Office Docs and PDF. Very mobile friendly. Can sync to desktop 🖥️

That's what I thought. But no, in both cases the gdocs and gsheets are just links to the cloud. Try opening one in notepad, you'll see it's just a hyperlink.

I recently discovered that syncing Google drive to your desktop isn't a backup. The docs 'files' are just link to the cloud version.
So I now do a Google Takeout of my drive annually.
takeout.google.com
👆 It converts them all to word docs and downloads them in a fat zip folder
