There is always the Temple City Kazoo Orchestra. Their cover of "Whole Lotta Love" is something to behold, if not to hear

But this varies as a small number of stations have closed. For example IBM just makes the 2018/19 cut off here. While a small number of stations have opened since.

There is a list of station name and CRS code here github.com/anisotropi4/... with pictures.

It is the right ball park but it depends.
I have 2 587 stations here github.com/anisotropi4/... but that is based on the number of stations that had passengers according to the ORR between 2018/19 and 2023/24.
GitHub - anisotropi4/kingfisher: ORR FY2018/19 to FY2023/24 passenger travel data projected onto the centre-line track-model

My hot take is: don't blame the data, work out where the process is failing and do something about that.

4/4

(I miscounted so 4/n is really 3/n)

However if I am in STP, the change of platform is really quite important, especially if announced at short notice and I want to get on.

For me the issue is then the decision making process, with insufficient time planned and poor communication to passengers and station staff 4/n

For example, if the platform the 09:37 from St Pancras to Sheffield changes from 3 to 4 and I'm in Sheffield, I probably don't care much. It might have some residual impact, such as I may find out that it is a five not seven car unit and so I should expect a grumpy son but that's about it 2/n

It was on grounds of safety. Which in my opinion doesn't stack up.

Data, outwith some narrow and technical edge cases, isn't (or shouldn't) have a safety impact in itself. Rather it is the context and the way in which the data is being used and understood that is important. 1/n

While I strongly disagreed with this position, said this and was pleased that it didn't hold sway, I am not going to name individuals or organisations here

The issue is that there are those who say* that it would be better of the data wasn't in the API.

Two things, RTT have been criticized for doing this and it isn't always correct. As there can be short notice changes. But I completely agree it's better than the alternative

Enjoy the path occupancy. It what I call trains but only because I work for an infrastructure manager...it's what makes the timetable special

A lot of this depends on which side of the Pennines you wish to travel

It would appear we now have an open rail and road datasets available. Which is nice.
