Good to be back at Netroots Nation #NN25. A lot has changed since my first time in 2007, when people knew me by my blog handle (IVotedForKodos)—with the country, the world, and myself. But it’s always comforting to make those awkward in-person connections with my fellow online progressives again.

Otherwise known as “wild, completely out of control corruption, completely dwarfing anything seen in our nation’s history prior.” Every day liberals go without dramatically ramping up our media investments is a day wasted.

That marketplace of ideas is calling out for a liberal model of masculinity. I'm working on one that will be recognizable to liberals as something that advances our cause while being recognizable to the type of young male who might be tempted by the Tate brothers as real masculinity.

How do people propose making the economy better? FINDING SOMEONE TO PUNISH. This is why I think Social Dominance Orientation is the dynamic that Democrats most underrate in the voting public.

Americans support the Democratic agenda of spending more on items like these, but often vote for Republicans anyway. But tell me again how policies and issues drive vote choice?

Still daydreaming about this chart from that great @mmfa.bsky.social report last weekend. We need more liberal political influencers, but more than that we need liberal influencers on personal finance and Housewives and the NFL and... www.mediamatters.org/google/right...

Just checking in on the party that campaigned on preserving democracy last year, and, oh…

This is a key piece of why I've been worrying lately that the Democratic Party may be creating a leadership vacuum for itself significantly out of proportion with the usual out-of-the-White-House scenario. The kind of vacuum that lends itself to hostile takeover by a demagogue. (Just ask the GOP.)

You can now reach as many voters through podcasts as you can through a cable news network...that's crazy.

Especially bc, unlike w/ cable news, a sub-national campaign won't be able to target ads to a local electorate on many podcasts.

Shows why we need national investment in liberal media.

Powerful proof point for the need to invest in liberal media.

#1, I don't believe this at all. As a straight, white male, I can attest that I am never told this.

But I bet guys who hang out in the rightwing manosphere are constantly TOLD that they're told this.

To truly forgive, you have to know and understand the sin. But I would argue that the voters that gave Trump his margin of victory most likely didn't actually know what he did wrong.
January 8, 2025 at 8:56 PM
Absolutely, 💯. But Democrats (or perhaps liberals more broadly) need to take this cue about the establishment media being structurally hostile to them to its next logical conclusion as well: start investing in media that is not hostile!
