Sociologist, left leaning but really just believe that everyone has a right to be who they are and live their own lives as long as they don't interfere with the same right in others.
Pilots are paid by airlines. It's the air traffic controllers who aren't getting paid. They are professionals and will do their job like they always do. Problem is there just aren't enough of them because they aren't getting paid.
