Last night a Dead Cow Gully, Phil Gore got a new #backyardultra world record with 119 Loops.
Sam Harvey with the 118 Loop assist.

On waking up this morning I find the answer to my question, in the case of Sam Harvey anyway, was ‘probably not’.
June 26, 2025 at 6:52 AM
Yeah, but are they having fun?

Almost new world record time in Australia…

Sam Harvey and Phil Gore are into loop 108, on night FIVE of #DeadCowGully #BackyardUltra

The record is 116 loops.

I feel tired this morning because I unconsciously pulled the blanket off my fiancée a couple of times in the night and she had to wake me up to get it back 🤣

I’ve had a full night’s sleep since the last post. 2 still standing on loop 106 at #DeadCowGully

If ever you need to have your faith in humans restored, come to the @spinerace.bsky.social

Run it, volunteer at it, hand out flapjacks on the course. Whatever you put into the #SpineRace you get back in buckets ❤️

My usual pre #spinerace digs are set up, my spreadsheets have been wrestled into cooperation and my camera batteries are charging.
1 sleep until #summerspine 2025 🎉

Me every time I walk into a room for the next 10 days…

It’s nearly Summer #SpineRace time!

For anyone else wishing the May bank holiday was a week longer, here is a delightful family of ducks to soothe you.

Seems it’s time to dust off the Lady Hale T-Shirt again!

It was over 30•c & 90% humidity that day and we marched 18 miles under the canopy. I think it was the furthest I’d ever hiked at the time. My main camera drowned an hour in but the only way out was through.
It was brutal, beautiful and brilliant.

It’s also where my fave ever photo of me was taken…

9yrs ago in Peru with #BeyondtheUltimate

The videographer had pulled out just before #JungleUltra 2016 so I stepped in, full of unearned confidence.
It was so tough, but I learned on the fly and loved it.

Out of shape, out of my element and by this stage out of my mind…

Big move from Ultra X here!
Free entry to all UK races for under 23s.

I’ve may have met more septuagenarians at races than students. Good to see a move that might bring more young runners into #ultrarunning

Bank holiday adventures in #linocut! Ok, I need a harder, flatter surface and some better kit for the actual printing stage, but I’m pretty happy with how this one went!

‘alone we can accomplish amazing things. together we can accomplish anything.’

On June 7th I’ll be at the Suffolk #BackyardUltra providing race updates. I was already excited after the records in Belgium this week and this post from Laz on FB has me even more hyped!

From #legendsbackyard FB:

‘Jan Vandekerckhove did not complete loop 116, so Łukasz Wróbel is our winner with an amazing new world record of 116 yards.
They pushed the limit of what is humanly possible. Again...’

I really enjoy scrolling through the amazing #photography posted for #Stunday, and the weekly excuse to revisit some of my own.

I’ve also been chewing through The Holographic Universe by Michael Talbot and the brilliant book pictured which is full of amazing insights coming from the place where the study of Consciousness, #AI and Physics intersect.

We are not quite what I thought we were in the most wonderful ways…

While it’s on my mind… I’ve been to Hoober Stand with a couple of different combinations of excellent mirrorless cameras and lenses, and all my favourite photos came from my iPhone with the zoom at 0.5.

The best camera is whichever one best communicates what you’re trying to say.

Further adventures in #linocut

Based on a photo of nearby Hoober Stand.

I honestly didn’t realise I’d got the layout of the windows wrong until it was printed. I’m not hung up on details apparently, but I am really enjoying the process of learning to find simple forms to represent complex things…

I’ve seen some great photos trawling #stunday posts and thought I’d chime in too.
Stage 5 of the #DesertUltra in Namibia is 92km long and starts at 3am. Head for CP2 at dawn and you can watch the runners come toward you as the sunrise turns everything gold.

This will apparently now be a #linocut printing account posting lino-cut printing content about printing with cut lino and the cutting of lino to create prints.

…Seeing so much of my adopted home town of #Sheffield being devastated by nuclear war makes it all the more jarring!

I’m a big fan of the film though. This traffic warden has been up in our house for years.
