Celtic - Jock Stein lounge; avid golfer - course bagger & simulator builder; music, travel, leftist politics. Career in engineering consultancy - global rail & transit.
Trashcan Sinatras - Wild Pendulum

Released in 2016, later on in the year if my memory serves me correctly. This is the silver vinyl version.

The band’s sixth studio album, spanning 26 years, but each worth the wait.

A seventh album is imminent.

The Clash - The Clash

Released in April 1977.

The band’s debut album.

Not just one of the best punk albums, one of the best albums, any genre.

‘White Riot’ & ‘Remote Control’ - two brilliant singles.

R.E.M. - Fables Of The Reconstruction

The band’s third studio album, released in June 1985.

‘Can’t Get There From Here’, ‘Driver 8’ & ‘Wendell Gee’ were the three single releases from this album.

To me, this album personified their IRS years.

The Pogues - If I Should Fall From Grace With God

Released in January 1988, shortly after the huge success of ‘Fairytale Of New York’, probably the finest Christmas song.

Two other singles followed - the title track, and ‘Fiesta’.

The album marked a line-up switch - Cait for Darryl, on bass.

The Pogues - Rum, Sodomy & The Lash

The band’s second studio album, which was released in August 1985.

Three singles came from this work of art - ‘A Pair Of Brown Eyes’, ‘Sally MacLennane’ & ‘Dirty Old Town’.

Memories of the concent at The Barrowlands, the day after Jock Stein died in Cardiff.

The Pogues - Red Roses For Me

Another outstanding debut, this time from The Pogues.

Released in October 1984, breaking new ground, and introducing the legendary Shane MacGowan.

Two singles came from this album - ‘Dark Streets of London’ and ‘Boys From The County Hell’. There could have been more.

The Pogues - Poguetry In Motion

Released in February 1986, between ‘Rum, Sodomy & The Lash’ and ‘If I Should Fall From Grace With God’.

In their peak.

R.E.M. - Reckoning.

Released in April 1994, their second studio album. Their five I.R.S. albums were all brilliant and this sounds as fresh today as it did back then, maybe better!

Only two singles from this album, but ‘So. Central Rain’ & ‘(Don’t Go Back To) Rockville’ are gems.

The Alarm - Strength

The band’s second studio album, released in 1985, as the follow-up to ‘Declaration’.

Four singles came from this album, including the iconic ‘Spirit of ‘76’.

I first saw them live, opening for U2 at Tiffany’s, Glasgow in March 1983. Some energy.

Big Country - The Crossing.

Released in the summer of 1983, and produced by Steve Lillywhite, who also twiddled the knobs for another great album released a few months earlier: U2 - War.

An album of the era and it still cuts it today. Stuart Adamson was very special.

The Beatles (album)

Known as The White Album

Their ninth studio album, released in November 1968, and slotting in between Sgt Peppers & Yellow Submarine.

This is an early pressing, with the top loader cover, inside gatefolds etc.

One of the longest albums at >90 mins, but worth it.

U2 - Songs Of Surrender

Released on Paddy’s Day 2023; a collection of re-workings of songs over the course of the band’s 40+ years of recordings.

I was fussed about the idea of this album, but it works!

There are some fantastic versions of old classics, ‘Stories For Boys’ being a highlight.

The Police - Ghost In The Machine.

Released in October 1981, their fourth of five studio albums.

Recorded in Montserrat, back in the day, when that was the thing to do. I appreciate this album more today that my 14 year old self did then.

What a band!

Live A Little - The Primevals.

Their third album.

Quite possibly Scotland’s’ most under-rated band of that mid 80s era, and certainly Glasgow’s. Often recording in the city’s famous Park Lane studios.

These albums bring back memories of great gigs around the city.

This album has a kick to it!

Filling the space between a trip to Paradise 🍀 and the Masters Day 3.

U2 - Boy. Released in October 1980. A tremendous debut, kicking-off three consecutive albums produced by Steve Lillywhite👏👏👏

Chic - Les Plus Grands Succès De Chic: Chic's Greatest Hits

A break from the norm from me, but some sublime bass playing. Different level.

Released in December 1979.

U2 - Rattle & Hum

A hybrid (before I knew what that meant) studio & live, double album, released in October.

An album for the ages, and accompanied by one of the best music film / documentaries.

The Best Of The Specials - The Specials

Originally released in March 2008, and re-released in 2019 in double vinyl.

Featuring Special A.K.A. too.

In the top echelon on British bands of the last 50 years.

U2 - The Unforgettable Fire.

Released in October 1984. I wasn’t that impressed much at the time; a lull, in between studio albums ‘War’ & ‘The Joshua Tree’.

It has some brilliant songs, not least ‘Pride’.
