Every encouraging message I have ever received has felt like a buoy when I wanted to quit or wondered if anyone would notice if I stopped writing and reporting to the standards and levels of my role models. And I send my own messages to other writers and reporters too.

Attacking trans children is about attacking all children in the same way attacking trans autonomy is about attacking all bodily autonomy. Our actions are particularly powerful, autonomous and brave, and that means even well meaning ppl find us ideologically disturbing

scholars in political philosophy, sociology, geography, etc. now know more or less exactly how these ur-fascist goons act, what their strategies are. the question we face now is about action. how can we share this knowledge with multiple publics? how can we act in concert to say: never again

the right also studied the history of 20th c. fascism & authoritarianism. its goal, however, was not to return to reality, but to learn from fascism in order to thwart movements for communism, decolonization, and democracy across the globe. we are now reaping the consequences of their imitations

Grant applications assess merit in the same way course evaluations assess learning: they don't. There's a clear "Matthew effect" in grants where winners keep winning and losers drop out *even when they're similarly rated*. Cut the red tape, give us what we need to do our jobs and let us get to work.
