Researching information for a local mural, I learned about Indiana's electric interurban passenger railway system in the early 1900s. Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania were all connected by this system. Its too bad we don't have anything like this anymore.

Apps like PsuedoTV and ErsatzTV let you set up “channels” like cable tv, with a similar interface. Basically DIY Pluto.

How this works: I used an HDMI to RF Modulator and a Roku Stick.

The stick plugs directly into the Modulator, and then the coax cable attaches to the TVs antenna input. In the case of this TV, it actually takes a 3.5mm auxiliary antenna, so I was able to buy a coax to 3.5mm adapter.

I actually just went through the process of connecting a Roku to a CRT for just this purpose. It’s so satisfying to just have Star Trek running in the background all the time.

There’s also streaming software now to emulate cable channels as if they’re “always on”.

As things wind towards the launch of my current project with @rosecitygames.bsky.social, I'm open for contracts in 2025. I have 20+ years of game dev experience and a background in building hands-on experiences with custom hardware for both trade-shows and museum exhibits.
