Richard I have learnt by trial and error. Most important points to a meadow in your lawn
1. Sow yellow rattle
2. Mow (no strimming) lawn from Sept- late March . use a sythe sept) cleat so that no nutrients enrich the grass
3 allow meadow to grow untouched between April- Sept.
Repeat steps 1-3

I try and describe the meadow to people . It's like the magic eye pictures that were trend in the 90s . If you look at you think you have seen everything and then if you keeping looking something else pops into view. I spent ours looking today at the meadow and it didn't disappoint.
