I got to visit the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller, AB last month, and it rekindled my love for natural history! My latest post is a blast from the past (the DEEP past), with a bit about some few more recent dinosaurs as a bonus treat. Check it out! www.wildfocus.org/blog2/2025/9...
Cambrian Weirdos — The Wild Focus Project
I’ve heard people describe the Cambrian explosion as “Mother Nature throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks,” and yeah, that’s pretty accurate. These creatures evolved to fill certain roles ...

Mosquitoes have a bad reputation, and it's not undeserved! So why don't we just wipe them out for good? Today's post discusses why that might not be as good of an idea as it seems. (Header photo by Simon Kutcher via Wikimedia)

In Defense of the Mosquito — The Wild Focus Project
Many years ago, I read Lewis and Clark’s account of their cross-continental voyage. My favorite part was the wide variety of spellings of “musquetors,” which were often “verry troublesome.” Lewis and ...

If there's one thing you need to know about me, it's that I. LOVE. cephalopods. So you can imagine how excited I was about the recent colossal squid footage! Today's blog post on The Wild Focus Project is all about cephs and their many amazing features: www.wildfocus.org/blog2/2025/4...
The Squid Squad — The Wild Focus Project
I was over the moon about the recent video of the baby colossal squid, captured by the Schmidt Ocean Institute. … Every time I think about colossal squids — and honestly, cephalopods in general — my m...

I wish more science focused people utilized other pop culture communication methods (comics, manga, tv,yt, animation, etc.) Because we need more creative communication methods. #scicomm #outreach #edutainment #education

There are a lot of scary things in the world, but despite what a lot of people think, most #spiders aren't one of them. Learn all about our 8-legged neighbors (including some personal faves) in my new post on the Wild Focus Project! www.wildfocus.org/blog2/2025/3... (photo by Uda Dennie)
Spider Showcase — The Wild Focus Project
